Back in business
After two weeks off (for the AGM and Good Citizens Awards) we are back in full swing.
Last night was week one of our current six week Puppy Course. What a fantastic bunch of puppies we have. The class welcomed two Labradors and three Spaniels who were all certainly eager to learn. They managed each exercise with brilliant attitude and their owners did fantastic as well. Beautiful Erin, who belongs to handler Luke from Clever Dogs, was used to demonstrate 'sitting in the heel work position' and she performed to perfection. Each puppy worked really hard...some more than others as the sheer excitement of new people in a new place with dogs around was just far too interesting. We cannot wait to see them all back next week!
As for Clever Dogs, we were very happy to welcome little Gem into the class who did really, really well. Such a timid lad when he first arrived on the Puppy Course but last night he was performing heel work around the hall and even managed a couple of recalls. Well done Gem! We also welcome a new dog to the Club, a beautiful Working Cocker Spaniel who was very eager to please but would easily get frustrated. Teresa (Trainer) needed to adapt the recall exercise, taking it right back to basics, to allow Laira to work out what we wanted from her. She is a very clever girlie and was soon figuring out what she needed to do to get her reward.
To end the evening off, Top Dogs worked hard on their heel work, recall, retrieve and static skills. Weaving in and out of cones for heel work to keep the dog focused and making them think about keeping their bottoms in, rather than swinging out when changing direction. It is important to mix things up among exercises to keep your dog keen and interested.
Keep up the hard work and we look forward to seeing you next week.
