Training hard!

Over the last couple of weeks, the heat has definitely made things difficult for our four-legged companions! Training class were shortened and more relaxed to help keep everyone cool.

We are well into our current Puppy Course. We have two beautiful dogs who are doing very well with their training. Kai, a Weimaraner and Teddy, a Labrador x Vizsla. Both dogs are progressing nicely, picking up new tasks very quickly. Last week we were working on heel work and recall and both did exceptionally well.

One thing we like to offer at EDDTC is no age limit to our Puppy Course. Kia is a good example of this: As a puppy he suffered multiple health issues such as numerous ear infections and an overshot jaw which lead to dental problems. This made his early experiences and training rather difficult. It is really important to bed in basic obedience skills and so, even at 10 months old, it is important for him to learn these.

It is also important for dogs like Teddy to learn basic obedience as she is slightly timid. Coming to our regular classes is teaching her to become more confident by being around new people and dogs and learning to work with and trust her owner.

As for our other classes, both Clever Dogs and Top Dogs have been working hard on heel work and send aways. Like with all exercises, we try to make them fun and the dogs have certainly been enjoying themselves. This takes the pressure off when learning new skills which allows them to have a better learning experience.
